A small hunting cabin @ 250 sq/ft set in 1’000 acres of ancient woodland in southern England. Excavation of the inclined topography enabled the cabin to be semi-subterranean, set into the hillside to minimise visual impact and also benefit from geo-thermal insulation.
A naturally colonised green roof conceals the cabin save for the projecting chimney from the wood stove which provides heating as well as cooking facilities. A pair of ‘murphy‘ beds are installed for overnight sleeping making this cabin usable as a family weekend getaway destination. A perfect example of a modest, low impact structure allowing a family to engage with nature.
